Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and declared, “It was necessary that we first preach the word of God to you Jews. But since you have rejected it and judged yourselves unworthy of eternal life, we will offer it to the Gentiles. For the Lord gave us this command when he said,
‘I have made you a light to the Gentiles,
to bring salvation to the farthest corners of the earth.’” Acts 13:46-47
To all the wonderful Jewish people in the world: Thank you.
Thank you for receiving the law and the prophets and keeping them for history.
Thank you for loving God and seeking to obey His commandments.
Thank you for all the times you risked life and limb to protect the messages you received from God for all the peoples of the world. Thank you for the persecution you endured, and for enduring the horrible and humiliating things done to your ancestors.
Thank you for the faith you exercised that enabled many of you to do miraculous things to maintain your nation so that you could bring the Messiah — the Christ — into the world.
Though I wish you could change your minds now, I do thank you for rejecting Him when He showed up, because that made it possible for people like me to know Him.
This is probably the hardest of all, but thank you for killing Him. Without His death as a criminal on a cross, we would all still have to die in our trespasses and our sins. You made His resurrection and our forgiveness possible.
And thank you for rejecting the early Christians and for seeking to persecute them and stop the formation of the church, for in trying to put out that fire, you only fanned the flame and spread it all over the world.
Thank you for doing all these things, because, all along, you were only fulfilling the prophesies of how the message was going to get out to the uttermost parts of the earth.
And now — now that Jesus is both ours and yours — why don’t you recognize this as Gods plan, and accept Him as your Messiah. It’s not too late. Many of our friends are Jews who have embraced Jesus. Study all the prophesies from your own scriptures about how He was going to suffer and die at the hands of His own people so that He could be the Savior of the world.
You don’t have to wait anymore. He’s here.
